Paddle Boarding Adventures in and Around Victoria
From the bustling Inner Harbour to the tranquil shores of secluded bays, here’s a glimpse into my favorite paddleboarding spots, including the serene Brentwood Bay. They also work for kayaking if that is more your speed.
Inner Harbour
Paddleboarding around Victoria’s Inner Harbour is like gliding through a postcard. The bustling harbour activity, with an array of boats against the stunning backdrop of the BC Legislative Building and the Fairmont Empress, is breathtaking. It’s a vibrant place to paddle and soak up the city’s energy.
Gorge Waterway
The Gorge Waterway journey is a diverse mix of urban and natural vistas. From the industrial harbor to the picturesque waterway itself, this route offers beautiful homes, parks, and landmarks. It’s a unique way to see a different side of Victoria.
Thetis Lake
For a day of calm and scenic paddleboarding, Thetis Lake is my favorite. The lake’s sheltered waters are perfect for a relaxing and enjoyable paddle, surrounded by stunning natural beauty.
Elk Lake
Elk Lake is my choice for both serene and slightly more challenging conditions. Paddleboarding here, with the tranquility of nature all around, is absolutely rejuvenating.
Gonzales Beach
Gonzales Beach is ideal for a beach-style paddleboarding experience. Its calm waters and beautiful surroundings make it perfect for a day of exploring the coastline and enjoying the beach atmosphere.
Willows Beach
Willows Beach in Oak Bay is a fantastic spot for paddleboarding, especially if you’re into exploring vibrant marine life and interesting shorelines. The strong currents and winds offer a bit of a challenge but make it all the more exciting.
Cadboro Bay
Paddling in Cadboro Bay is like going on a mini adventure. From the sheltered bay head past the yacht club, the journey around the Uplands waterfront is scenic, and there’s always the playful mystery of spotting the “Cadborosaurus.”
Tod Inlet
Tod Inlet is my go-to for a beginner-friendly and peaceful paddle. With sheltered waters and a manageable distance, it’s a great spot for anyone starting out or looking for a serene paddle.
Brentwood Bay
Brentwood Bay has quickly become one of my favorite paddleboarding destinations. Its calm and sheltered waters are perfect for a peaceful paddle. The bay offers stunning views of the surrounding landscapes and is ideal for spotting local wildlife. It’s a beautiful spot that encapsulates the essence of Vancouver Island’s natural beauty.
