Fan Tan Alley

Nestled in the heart of one of North America’s oldest Chinatowns, Fan Tan Alley stands as a testament to the area’s rich cultural history. This narrow alleyway, famous for its width that shrinks to less than three feet in places, is a bustling spot brimming with lively restaurants, galleries, and unique shops. It’s a must-visit for anyone looking to experience the vibrant energy of Victoria’s Chinatown.

Dragon Alley

Just a stone’s throw from Fan Tan Alley, across Fisguard Street, lies its lesser-known counterpart, Dragon Alley. As we stroll through, you’ll find an array of eateries, art galleries, and intriguing stores, each offering a piece of Victoria’s diverse cultural tapestry.

Trounce Alley

Heading towards the heart of downtown Victoria, we come across Trounce Alley, named after one of the city’s pioneers, Thomas Trounce. This charming passageway is a delightful mix of the old and the new. As we walk, notice the authentic gaslights, over 125 years old, casting a warm glow over the alley. The blend of historic ambiance and modern shops makes Trounce Alley a picturesque spot for a leisurely stroll.

Waddington Alley

Our next stop is Waddington Alley, often overlooked yet uniquely significant in Victoria’s alley network. This alley doesn’t boast the usual array of shops or twinkling lights; instead, its charm lies underfoot. Known as the “wooden street,” Waddington Alley’s walkway is made of small creosoted wooden bricks, a rare sight and the last of its kind in Victoria. Walking here feels like stepping back in time, a true hidden gem in the city.
